Removal only gets recommended once the alternatives have been ruled out - a tree with real structural problems, extensive internal decay, or a spot that's become genuinely hazardous, not a call we make on looks alone.
Deep internal rot, a split or cracked trunk, a root system undercut by erosion near the bluff edge, or a lean that's gotten noticeably worse over time. None of those are always visible from the ground, which is why an in-person look matters.
Past 30 centimetres of trunk diameter, the City's bylaw applies, and anything over 61 centimetres carries extra protection under a rule that took effect in September 2026. We file the paperwork as part of the job either way.
